Seven Militants Killed in DI Khan Operation; Soldier Martyred, ISPR Says
Pakistan’s security forces have killed seven militants during an intelligence based operation in
the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while one soldier was martyred in the
exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation
was conducted in the Kalachi area of DI Khan following confirmed intelligence regarding the
presence of militants described by the military as Fitna al Khawarij. The group was
characterised in the statement as operating as an Indian proxy and allegedly involved in multiple
acts of terrorism in the region.
The ISPR said troops engaged the militants after cordoning off the area, triggering a heavy
exchange of fire. Seven militants were killed during the encounter. Weapons and ammunition
were recovered from the site, which the military said were used in previous attacks.
During the operation, Naik Yasir Khan of the Pakistan Army was martyred. The ISPR said the
soldier belonged to Mardan district and “fought gallantly” before embracing martyrdom. His
death brings renewed attention to the human cost borne by security personnel engaged in
counter terrorism operations across the country.
The military said clearance and search operations are continuing in the surrounding area to
ensure no remaining threats persist. “The security forces of Pakistan are determined to
eliminate the menace of terrorism,” the statement said, adding that such operations would
continue until lasting stability is achieved.
The operation forms part of Pakistan’s broader counter-terrorism campaign under Operation
Azm e Istehkam (resolve for stability), which aims to consolidate gains made against militant
networks and prevent their re-emergence. The initiative focuses on intelligence driven
operations, border security, and dismantling logistical support structures used by armed groups.
The ISPR reiterated that security forces remain committed to neutralising militants operating in
border and tribal districts, particularly those accused of targeting civilians and security
personnel. It said recent operations reflect an intensified effort to deny space to armed groups
seeking to destabilise the country.
Officials said the operation underscores the continued volatility in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
and the sustained role of intelligence-led interventions in addressing militant threats, even as
security forces maintain pressure on multiple fronts.
